The use of the Data Quality Objectives (DQO) methodology has grown exponentially and is fast becoming a preferred methodology to be applied in clearance and waste characterisation projects, particularly within the UK nuclear industry. Come join us as a Graduate Consultant in our Safety Case Division and play a vital role in driving forward innovation across the Nuclear industry. Your Purpose:

Based in Abingdon, and acting as a key member of the Team, this opportunity is for a hands-on DQO Graduate Consultant to deliver consultancy and support to projects of a high level, that meet, and ideally exceed, client expectations.

This is a graduate position within Orano and requires a basic level of technical knowledge and ability to develop and present robust and defensible systematic planning methodologies to support site clearance and characterisation projects, including site delicensing applications. It requires the

Particularly by demonstrating technical excellence and producing high quality deliverables within agreed timescales and cost, in a way that supports the long-term growth of the business and its reputation.

Technically, the role would allow the graduate to expand their experience in a variety of industrial, legislative and technical knowledge areas such as site delicensing, waste management and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN), as well as in client specific systems. The graduate will gain experience in all aspects of pulling together and delivering a coherent and robust DQO methodology, along with the ability to present the associated technical arguments to clients and regulatory bodies.

In project terms, the role involves providing support to the management of this work (generally in the form of producing complex DQO documents and using statistical software such as Visual Sample Plan (VSP) to generate robust sampling designs), usually as the author or by supporting the DQO Technical Lead for a particularly complex part of the delicensing argument, so that work is delivered in time and to the programme agreed.

The role also involves developing your skills, identifying opportunities with clients, and supporting and helping others to develop within the business.

What you can bring:


  • Prior experience/knowledge of, or the ability to develop an in-depth understanding of either:
    • Data Quality Objectives (DQO) methodology, assessment and review;
    • Environmental Assessment;
    • Radioactive waste management in the UK;
    • General awareness of Radioactivity;
    • General awareness of statistical knowledge relating to the treatment of errors and population sampling;
    • Client and regulator interaction.


  • Good communicator, both written and verbal;
